Sustainable development

Festi-Green
The Festival is committed to sustainable development and has instigated an eco-responsible policy to minimize its environmental impact. In order to do so, we need your help, dear festival-goers!
Recycle: Green recycling bins are placed strategically all over the site. Please deposit your used plastic glasses and bottles in the bins.
Composting: We provide compostable cups, plates, bowls, etc, that we kindly ask that you deposit in the brown bins after use. Even our forks are compostable.
Impressive, isn’t it?
Getting around in ecological fashion: Come by bus. It costs only one dollar. You can also leave your car at the Cégep de Sherbrooke or the Galeries Quatre Saisons shopping centre and take the free shuttle service. For more information, come this way.
The Festival des traditions du monde de Sherbrooke will also do its share. Here is a list of the major undertakings for the 2011 edition.
Residual matter management: based on the 4-Rs method (rethink, reduce, re-use, recycle)
Reduction of greenhouse gases:performers will be lodged in a motel less than 2 km from the Festival site
Paperless communications:implementation of electronic registration for performers, exhibitors and volunteers
Eco-responsible procurement:
- favouring local suppliers
- re-use of most of the material from prior Festivals
- re-usable site decorations
- 400 t-shirts for volunteers made of biological fibres from local businesses
Participation of partners
- Écho-logique Consortium: residual matter management

- Nova Envirocom: specialized consultants for compostable dishes, bowls and cups, etc.

- Éco-Coop: specialized consultants and sustainable development

Concrete results
Thanks to the collaboration of festival-goers, we collected over 4 tons of recyclable matter in 2010! We bet we will do better in 2011. The challenge has been issued!
