Herencia Latina is a dance company that was born in 2015 out of the concern and desire of a group of Latin American immigrants residing in Estrie to save, maintain, transmit and share part of their customs and traditions through dance. This group, which began with a few empirical dancers led by choreographer Miguel Gutierrez, now counts over 70 dancers in its ranks. This large family, called Herencia Latina, is one of the largest and best-established dance companies in the province of Quebec. Among its members are dancers of diverse origins (Colombians, Mexicans, Peruvians, Venezuelans, Haitians, Moroccans, Congolese and Quebecers, among others), as one of Herencia Latina’s main objectives is cultural integration.
This project aims to bring to life and tell the story of Latin American history through various types of dance from different countries, with each performance reflecting the characteristic colors, stories and music of each place. The Herencia Latina dance troupe firmly believes that every type of dance tells a story, presents a culture and can convey feelings. By assimilating Herencia Latina’s own style, we seek to preserve these stories by interweaving them while highlighting the cultural diversity of the country and the customs and traditions of each region presented.
