The volunteer family of the Festival des traditions du monde de Sherbrooke, the Festival cinéma du monde de Sherbrooke and the Classique Pif recently came together for an appreciation evening filled with gratitude, celebration and community spirit.
Each year, more than 900 volunteers contribute to the success of these three flagship events. Their dedication, generosity and passion help create memorable experiences for attendees while ensuring the smooth operation of each event.
To recognize this exceptional contribution, volunteers were invited to enjoy a festive evening featuring a delicious meal, lively music, dancing and prize draws. The warm and welcoming atmosphere provided an opportunity to reconnect, share experiences and celebrate another successful year together.
The evening also served as an opportunity to recognize several volunteers whose outstanding commitment deserves special mention.
Honoured Volunteers
This year, the Festival des traditions du monde de Sherbrooke chose to honour seven volunteers whose dedication, loyalty and generosity contribute to the success of the event year after year. Each of them plays an important role in bringing the Festival’s mission to life and creating a warm, welcoming experience for festivalgoers. Their contribution is invaluable and deserves to be recognized.
Gaby Fortin and Simon Rivard
The FTMS would like to recognize Gaby Fortin and Simon Rivard, a volunteer duo whose remarkable dedication extends far beyond the tasks they undertake. Always ready to lend a hand, whether at the L’Hacienda Latina Bar during the Festival, at the press conference reception, or during the volunteers’ appreciation evening, they stand out for their reliability, efficiency and contagious enthusiasm. Over the years, Gaby and Simon have become pillars of our volunteer team, contributing not only their time and energy, but also their generosity and positive spirit. Their involvement helps make the Festival a welcoming and inclusive event for everyone. A heartfelt thank you to this exceptional volunteer couple, whose commitment continues to help the Festival shine year after year.
Marcel Fecteau and Michel Montmigny
The FTMS also wished to recognize the exceptional contribution of Marcel Fecteau and Michel Montmigny, who dedicated many years to leading the Bar des Placoteux team. Through their professionalism, organizational skills and strong team spirit, they played a key role in the smooth operation of the Festival and the success of numerous editions. Always willing to lend a hand, solve problems and share their experience, Marcel and Michel have left a lasting mark on their team through their generosity and commitment. While they are now passing the torch to a new generation of team leaders, we are delighted that they will continue to be part of our volunteer family. Thank you for your many years of dedication, service and the countless memories created along the way.
Marco Leclerc et Isabelle Marois
The FTMS also wished to highlight the remarkable dedication of Marco Leclerc and Isabelle Marois, who lead the organization of the popular Wine and Cheese Tasting Evening with passion, care and professionalism. Their work begins long before the event itself, as they oversee every aspect of the planning process, from menu preparation and guest coordination to logistics and event operations. Thanks to their leadership, organizational skills and ability to mobilize a team of nearly forty volunteers, this activity has become a warm and much-anticipated gathering. Also highly involved with Bistro 1, Marco and Isabelle are known for their welcoming spirit, availability and strong sense of teamwork. Their dedication and generosity play a significant role in the Festival’s success year after year. We are deeply grateful for their loyalty and their invaluable contribution to our organization.
Georges Saleh
The FTMS also wished to pay tribute to Georges Saleh, a volunteer whose quiet yet essential commitment perfectly embodies the spirit of volunteerism. Present several weeks before the Festival begins, he plays an active role in setting up and preparing the site, always approaching the work with remarkable determination and generosity. Always ready to lend a hand, Georges works behind the scenes with humility, never counting his hours or seeking recognition. Over the years, his experience and dedication have become a true source of inspiration for the team. He also plays a valuable role in mentoring younger volunteers, generously sharing his knowledge and helping pass on the values of commitment and community that are at the heart of our volunteer program. Through his constant presence, kindness and generosity, Georges makes an invaluable contribution to the Festival’s success. A heartfelt thank you for his loyalty, dedication and everything he brings to the Festival before, during and after the event.
