Reggae, folk, traditional indigenous music
Originally from Maliotenam in northeastern Quebec, the singer-songwriter Shauit sings mostly in his native language, Innu, as well as in French. Merging traditional Innu music with folk and reggae, he offers honest, engaging songs filled with emotion and personal experience. Since the release of his last album in 2017, Shauit has performed all over the world and has won over a loyal following with his innovative mix of styles. In 2018, he won the prestigious award for “Best Album of the Year in Indigenous Language in North America” at the Indigenous Music Awards. In the same year, he won the Indigenous Songwriter of the Year award at the Canadian Folk Music Awards. He is currently working on a new album which will appear in 2020. Shauit is a proud representative of Aboriginal culture around the world.
